Moonlit's In Bed With... Series is a collection of intimate interviews with tastemakers, core-shakers, and the people we love. We explore what keeps them up at night, in addition to their sleep secrets.
This week we’re diving into the whimsical world of Sara, Founder of Wanderful Boxes. Sara's collection of beautifully curated gift boxes all began with her obsession with surprising people with exciting gifts they have never seen and didn't yet know they needed. 💕While the idea for Wanderful Boxes originated from her passion for green beauty and a cleaner lifestyle, Sara's curiosity constantly finds her searching for new treasures and ways to make your next gifting opportunity effortless and unique.
Hey Sara! We love your passion for curating treasure troves of green beauty products to help us live a cleaner lifestyle. We would love to hear a bit about you, your background, and how Wanderful Boxes all began!
Sara: I’m a West Coast girl who grew up in an adventure happy family with a house full of unique travel treasures. After having my children and growing a bit restless, I had the itch to start a business but wasn’t quite sure which direction I wanted to go. I’ve always been an avid researcher of and advocate for green beauty and healthy living and realized I could marry that with my love of travel and seeking out unique items and products. ✈️ Just as we discover new things when we travel, I want people to have that feeling when they open a Wanderful Box!
Q: Do you have any specific method or process behind creating each box?
Sara: Not really! I like to make sure that each box has a luxury feel and includes items that are both functional and unique. 🌟
Q: What’s been one of the most rewarding parts of starting Wanderful Boxes?
Sara: The thank you messages I receive! Hearing things like ‘She’s the hardest person to shop for and she absolutely loved her box!’ Also, I have met so many incredible brands and business owners turned friends. ❤️
Q: What do you have coming up in 2018?
Sara: Some really fun collaborations! Also, adding some different styles into the mix. Stay tuned to Instagram and my website!
Q: What's your nighttime ritual?
Sara: Kids to bed, brew my Niche Sleep Tea (a staple item in our household), answer emails or browse potential shop products and other pretties on Instagram before heading to wash my face or shower. I love the ritual of a good skincare routine, one of my favorite parts of the day. 🌙
Q: Best place you've woken up in?
Sara: Italy, my initial response was Siena but Cinque Terre was amazing. Venice, too. We’ll go with Italy as a whole!
Q: What keeps you up at night?
Sara: Worrying about my kids. Also, my actual kids.
Q: What keeps you energized during the day?
Sara: Exercise and my Grown mushroom tonic from Glow Apothecary.
Q: Most important sleep advice you can give?
Sara: Get as much sleep as you can between 10 pm and 2am! Your brain will be much happier.
Q: I get the best sleep when...
Sara: I don’t have anything to do the next day! Schedule a 7am workout, though, and my child will inevitably wake up hourly. It’s like he knows.
Q: Fun fact?
Sara: I have restless leg syndrome which I find oddly comforting because my mom and my grandma both had it, too. It’s mild and every time I catch my foot moving back and forth, I smile and think of them. When I look at my daughter sleeping, her little foot is usually going, too.
My ideal # of hours of sleep is: 7-8
But in reality, I actually get: However many my 15 month old, non sleep-loving child allows!
Sleep season for me is: Fall
How many pillows: 1
AM or PM?: PM although I’m slowly starting to love mornings a bit
Nightcap?: Niche Sleep Tea, always
Bad sleep habit: Eating too close to bedtime. I love snacks and I’m always hungry.
Good sleep habit: I always wash my face. Always.
Can't sleep with: The fan on too high. Constant struggle in our house but if the fan can blow my hair when I’m laying down, off it goes.
Side/back/stomach sleeper: Left side
Mantra: Some days you’re the bug, some days you’re the windshield. Seize the windshield days and take it easy on yourself during the bug days.
